A centennial legacy
of cutting edge.
SCHARFEN SLICING MACHINES
Built to last since 1919
It’s true, we have a centennial legacy of building the best professional slicing machines for any kinds of food products. While times have changed over the course, it’s one thing that will last for good: our relentless commitment to providing customers with cutting edge food slicers unrivalled in performance, precision, durability, ease of use and food safety.
Hands on since
the early days
Founded in 1919 as a locksmith's shop in Witten, North-Rhine Westphalia, the company was renamed Hermann Scharfen Werkzeugmaschinenfabrik just two years later. Two of the box column drills produced during this time are still in use today.
After converting the production to can seaming machines in 1931, the company moved to Ruhrstraße 76 in 1938.
Pioneer for electric
In 1954 we developed our first electric slicing machines and sold them with fast growing success especially in Europe and the USA.
In 1980 Hermann Scharfen took over his father's business in the third generation.
Since the beginning of the 90s we have been manufacturing our machines exclusively in stainless steel.
A true milestone
In 2002 we sold the 50,000th Scharfen Slicing Machine.
Step by step
into the future
In 2018, Philipp Georgi took over the company from Hermann Scharfen with the goal to strengthen Scharfen’s traditional brand values and technical expertise with a modern approach to sales & marketing as well as state-of-the-art information systems.

Some professional words of mouth from around the world…
Joe Adair, District Manager
DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks, Texas
„We enjoy the machine immensely! Things are made easier by saving us time. It cuts our previous slicer time in half, with a quicker cycle to cycle time and cleaning process. The sharpening process is a breeze.“
Werner Schuth, Owner
Schuth Butchery, est. 1959, Cologne
„I am enthusiastic about my VA 4000. It works highly reliable, high volume processing is extraordinary, and it’s much easier to clean than other slicers. I have recommended Scharfen to other specialist shops already.“
